Date What's New or what has been added

September 7 2002 From France and Jean-Pierre Touzeau, I received a recent photo of the Re 2002 preserved in Limoges, France. Gregory Alegi sent a new photo of the Ro 41 project showing the progress being done. The photo was taken by Francesco Ballista. Benno Goethals have visited the museum Osterreichishes Luftfahrtmuseum, Thalerhof where the remains of the Bf 110G-2 is which was recovered in the 80's from a lake in Austria. The remains only include one engine (see photo in the engine section) and some undercarriage remains, the rest is "labeled" as scrap metal. So the entry for a Bf 110 in Austria has been removed from the listing.

On a bright side, I went on a business trip to Finland two weeks ago, and stayed over the weekend to tour some aviation museums. Literally it was the trip of my life since I over three days managed to visit the all but one of the aviation museums in Finland, and in addition their tank museum and a private arms museum which I happened to drive past. At Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo I met Timo Savolainen and Timo Heinonen for a guided tour. Timo Heinonen worked at the museum and insisted that I try out the cockpits of Bf109G-6, Fokker D.XXI, Humu and Pyörremyrsky. As you can understand I was not difficult to persuade (The photos will appear in my future book "cockpits I've sat in" - Well I can't fly so what else can write about?:-). Anyway, I took a lot of photos of some very unusual aircraft and parts that will be added over the next few weeks. Many thanks to you both for that great day!

The first upload includes a new photo of the Bf109G-6 MT507, including a cockpit photo. Also a new photo of the VL Humu and a cockpit shot from it have been added. I got to see one of my favorite aircraft in Finland; the Caudron 714 of which photos have been added. As you can see the engine is missing and the cockpit needs a lot of tender loving care. Also added were photos of the Douglas DC-2 fuselage in Helsinki and the Fokker CVE rear fuselage in storage at Lathi. A photo of the ultra rare Blackburn Ripon IIF have been added - what a big ugly beauty it is!

August 31 2002 Dave Pawlikowski have agreed to let me use a photo of the Ki 115 Tsurugi in Storage with NASM. Christoph Westhaus sent a photo of Fw 189 tail cone gun turret that is on show at the Dresden Militärhistorisches Museum and a better photo of the Fi 103 on show in the same musuem. Urs Ruf visited the airshows at Kestenholz and Hagenau a couple of days ago and sent in photos of the following Bückers; Bü 131 HB-UUA, Doflug Bü 131 HB-UVC, HB-UUF, HB-UUT, HB-UUH (this aircraft have been reported to be under restoration earlier - which obviously have been completed since its flying now). CASA 1131 D-EEQP, G-BSFB, G-EHBJ, Judging from the photos it seems that the summer have been nice in Switzerland, and the backgrounds in the photos are breathtaking! Many thanks for your great contributions!
August 17 2002 Andre de Zwart contributed photos of the DB 610 engine on show at Technik museum Speyer, Sinsheim as well as a Hirth 500 on show at Luftwaffe museum Gatow. I've also added a photo of propellers from a Fw 58 and a Do 26 as well as the entry door of a Do 26 in original color and a new photo of the Norwegian Fw 190 taken outside, on a sunny day in Bodö.
August 8 2002 Tatsuaki Inoue contributed some photos of what can be four different (at least three different can be seen) Nakajima Ki 43 wrecks. The pictures were taken at Champlin Fighter Museum some years ago. I guess these are the ones being rebuilt by the Texas Aircraft Factory. If anyone can shed any more light on this I'd be grateful! I've also added some photos of preserved engines at the museum in Madrid: two Argus AS 10C, DB 601E, Hirth 500 and Hirth 560 as well as the Italian engines Alfa Romeo 128-RC18 and Fiat A30RA.
July 27 2002 Stefan Schmoll added photos of Bü 133 F-AZHC and F-AZEU. Urs Ruf visited Hagenau some days ago and caught some more Bückers; CASA 1.131 D-ERBB, G-EMJA and D-FFJR. Victor Nitu sent in a photo of the Nardi FN 305 on show in Bukarest. Thank you!
July 19 2002 Still plagued by some problems with my internet provider (they suck and I'm paying for it!)  I've finally been able to upload some new additions. Mr Derek Clarke and Mr Clive Basset have contributed a photo of a privately owned Bf 110 rudder that was taken as a souvenir at the end of WWII. For a time it has been on show at a local museum at the former B-24 base of the 801st-492nd Bombardment group in Northamptonshire. Dirk Lombard of South Africa added a photo of the Jumo 004 on display at the South African Air Force Museum in Pretoria. Stefan Schmoll from Germany sent a photo of the Fw 190D-9 under restoration for the Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow and the Bü 133 U-80 G-BUCK. I've also added a photo of a propeller from a He 112 on view at Museo del Aire in Madrid together with some engines on show at that museum; two examples of the BMW Model VI, BMW-Bramo 323, BMW-Siemens SAM 322H2 and BMW 801D2. Many thanks for the contributions!
July 7 2002 Christoph Westhaus sent some photos from his visit to the Junkers Museum in Dessau. The photos include the Ju 52/3m and it's cockpit currently under restoration. It will later this month be given a silver paint scheme with civilian markings. Among the other photos were one of the rare Jumo 207 as well as a propeller reportedly from the extinct Junkers G 38 as well as one of the BMW 132 engines on display. While keeping to the Junkers theme for this update, I've added some better photos (Birger Larsen) of the recreated Ju 52/3m instrument panel and the navigators position on display at the museum in Bodö.  I've also added new photos of the "Buchons" on view at Museo del Aire in Madrid as well as the MS 500, the Nord N1002, the Heinkel 111E, the interior of the CASA 2.111 and the two CASA 352s.
July 2 2002 There have been some problems with my internet provider lately but I hope that it have been solved now. Marko Jeras added a photo of the Bü 133 on show in Belgrade.
July 1 2002 A few weeks ago I went on a weekend trip to Madrid in Spain and had the opportunity to visit Museo del Aire, the airshow at Fundación infante de Orleans. The first batch of photos will focus on the CASA/Bücker aircraft which I saw there. Two Bü 133s have been added and five CASA 1.131 preserved in Spain have been added. The previous photo of CASA 1.131 LN-ESS have been exchanged for an updated one. A cockpit photo of the CR 32 in Madrid have also been uploaded as well as a new photo of the Cr 32 on show in Madrid. More will come.
June 15 2002 Takehiko Koto of Japan have contributed have contributed some more interesting photos from his collection. There are a few additions in the Japanese relics section of two A6M wing sections on show at the Navy Memorial Museum in Washington DC. The smaller section is from the first Zero captured by the US during the war, while the larger section is from one of the Kamikaze planes that attacked USS Enterprise on May 14, 1945. Also a float of a Aichi E13A1 and two photos of preserved wing sections of the Tachikawa Ki 106 experimental wooden version of the Ki 84 have been added. A photo of the sole Ne-20 jet engine preserved in Japan is now in the engine section. A photo of the Nakajima Ki 27 Nate wreck on show at the Thai Air Force Museum as well as photos of the Mansyu Ki 79B and Yokosuka K5Y1 Type 93 "Willow" trainers on show at Museum Abri Satriamandala in Indonesia have also been added. Many thanks for these great additions!
June 8 2002 This time I've got photos of 2 new aircraft and 4 exchanges are made for better or newer photos of other aircraft. Kenneth Pedersen added a photo of CASA 1131 D-ECCC and Urs Ruf ofBü 133 A-61. Jan Kristian Rasmussen added newer photos of Kermit Weeks Fw 44 and Bü 181, while Kenneth Pedersen sent a recent photo of HA 1109K1L c/n 54 and Urf Ruf added a better photo of CASA 1131 HB-UVH. I've also removed CASA 352s (T.2B-189, T.2B-163, T.2B-260) from the list of preserved aircraft since I didn't find them when I visited these places (Getafe AFB and Cuatro Vientos AFB) the last weekend. Also my friends in Spain say that there are no more CASA 352s in Spain than the four now listed.
June 3 2002 Some more contributions from Urs Ruf collection have been added: Doflug Bû 131 HB-UUV, HB-UUF, CASA 1.131 D-EEGN, HB-UVH and HB-UVM as well as Bü 133 HB-MKR and HB-MKN. Kenneth Pedersen added a photo of Klemm Kl 35 SE-AKN while it was in storage, now it is under restoration in Denmark. A very happy piece of news is that the Fw 44 D-ENAY, previously with the Deutches Museum is now back in the air again. See new photo! Christiaan Vanhee have contributed a very exciting photo of the elusive Bf 109 that was on show at the Tangmere Aviation Museum. Some very exciting additions and news, thanks!
May 25 2002 Gregory Alegi contributed an update with photo of the reconstruction of the IMAM RO 41 by the GAVS society for the Italian Air Force Museum. Urs Ruf of Switzerland have embarked on the ambitious project of documenting every privately registered Swiss aircraft. This includes of course several Bücker Jungman and Jungmeister aircraft which he have volunteered for this site. The first upload of Urs photos includes Bü 131 HB-UUI, HB-UUM, HB-UUU, HB-URD, HB-UUD, HB-URH, HB-UTK, HB-UUC and CASA 1.131 HB-UDB. More will come later from Urs. Thanks for great additions!
May 19 2002 Gunnar Åkerberg contributed some photos from his latest trip to Canada of the modified CASA 352, the HA 1112M1L and an original Ju 52 float on show at Western Canada Aviation Museum. Winnipeg. Unfortunately he didn't see anything of the Junkers W 34 parts that are supposed to be in the collection. Peter Cohausz added a better photo of HA 1112 D-FDME.
May 11 2002 Takehiko Koto of Japan have contributed some interesting photos and information on Japanese aircraft. He have added additional photos of the two preserved E13A1 Type 0 "Jake" aircraft. A photo of the Zero at the Japanese Self Defence Force Museum in Kanoya, the YOKOSUKA MXY7-K1 at the Navy Memorial Museum, Washington DC and the Tachikawa Ki 24 glider at the Thai Air Force Museum. More photos will come from this great source later on!
May 4 2002 The webmaster Kiyama Noriyuki, of a Japanese site dedicated to military museums in Japan have agreed to exchange photos and information. In return for photos from my collection of Japanese aircraft and Japanese tanks he have given me permission to use photos from his collection of the following aircraft; E13A1 Type 0 "Jake" at Kasedo Peace Museum, E13A1 Type 0 "Jake", Mitsubishi J8M1 and rocket engine at Gifu AB, N1K1 Shiden-Kai "George" at Nanreku Misho Koen, Ki-61-IIKai Hien "Tony" and A6M7 Reisen "Zeke" at Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots, Kyushu. Sakae Tomoda of Japan added a photo of a Tachikawa Ki 55 at Beijing Military Museum and gave me the information that the aircraft I have had listed as Ki 55 on show at the Chinese Air Force museum in fact is a Ki 36. This means that I've now added a new survivor to this site. Tracy Dungan sent in a very recent photo from the restoration of the USAFM A4 which is almost finished. The A4 rocket is one of few preserved examples which sports the splinter camouflage instead of the usual black/white paint scheme. Many thanks to you all for these great additions!
April 27 2002 Rod Larson added photos of the Zero on display at Hamamatsu air base in Japan as well as of the restored Zero at Museum of Flying in California. Also a restored Sakae 21 engine at the later museum have been added. Uwe Stickel contributed a photo of his Lycoming engined Bü 131 (Aero C-104) with twice the normal power in the engine. "It's a pleasure to fly, especially during maneuvering and aerobatics" - I bet it is! I've also added a photo of a Do 24 turret at the relics section as well as a photo of a HDL151 turret probably from a BV 138. Thanks for the contributions!
April 20 2002 This time I've added some photos from Sweden. A "Paparazzi" photo of the NC 701 SE-KAL in storage at Arlanda airport - well it's at least photographic evidence that it still exists even though the photo is bad. When I was inside it some ten years ago it was a gutted hulk, no instruments and it had been moved by a tractor putting its forklift through the fuselage... So it will never fly again, hopefully it can be externally restored for display, but it's been in outside storage for a few decades now. A fin section and a rudder from a Ju 86 have been added to the relics page. They were rescued from a fire dump in the 70's. Yes, there were a second intact Ju 86 in Sweden well in to the 70's before it was sadly scrapped. Also a cockpit photo of Fw 44 W.Nr. 2816 with more or less original WWII instrumentation have been added. A photo of skies from Fw 44, Kl 35 and other Swedish WWII trainers have been added at a "miscellaneous relics" section.
April 11 2002 The fourth year online for the site begins today. This is celebrated with a few interesting additions! André de Zwart added photos of a Do 335 relic and two Do 15 relics on show at the Dornier museum. Stephen Walsh sent in a photo of the Me 163 now on display in the new Anzac hall at Australian War Memorial. The Me 163 have now had markings added. Photos of Bü 131 G-TAFF (Andrew Davidson) and G-BUTA (Michael Sibley), MS 505 c/n 695.28 (Andy Dawson) and Fritz-X missile (Andy Dawson) on show at The Museum of Flight in Scotland have been added. The Fritz-X is previously unlisted on this site, but it could be the one that once was on view at Missile Museum, Nottinghamshire, but that one is reported to have gone to RAFM. If anyone can shed any light on it I'd appreciate it. From a friend in Belgium I've received two photos of a Bf 109F and Bü 181 W.Nr. 110258, which are under restoration to static display in a private collection. The Bü might have been equipped with panzerfausts, since it was captured on an airfield in Denmark where many such Bü 181s were found, some equipment in the cockpit might support this. Many thanks for great additions!
April 2 2002 I've added a special section with photos and some text from my trips to aviation museums in Norway. This section will only be available for a while because of the space limitations. Enjoy
April 1 2002 Laurent Pater added photos of the Ki-51 Type 99 "Sonia", Ki-43-II Hayabusa and A6M5 Reisen "Zeke". Brad Pilgrim sent in photos of a Fi 103 wing in storage with Olympic Flight Museum. It came with the same batch as the rest of the V1 stuff taken over from Amjet. Brad also sent in a photo of a Hs 293 wing on display at NASM. This wing might be from the Hs 293 on display at Silver Hill or it is a completely new previously unlisted artifact.
March 26 2002 David Reay sends some photos (including cockpit shot) of Black 6 taken at unofficial rollout in March at Duxford after restoration is completed. Great to see it back in one piece. All that is needed is an engine overhaul, then it is is fit for flight!
March 9 2002 Hannes Stadler sent in photos of the BMW 803 experimental engine and the DB 610 at Flugwerft Schleißheim. Brad Pilgrim added a photo of the HS 293 previously with AMJET. The AMJET collection (including the two Fi 103s added previously) have been taken over by the Olympic Flight Museum. As usual Peter Cohausz knows a lot about preserved German aircraft, and he could tell that the artistic installation in the Fi 103 photo added last weekend was made by made by Holger Bull from Germany. The installation is a memorial for the victims of the V1. Angel Sanchez Serrano forwarded two exciting cockpit photos taken by Rafael Paniagua from  the He 111E and the CASA 2.111 on show at Museo del Aire. Thanks for the great photos!
March 2 2002 Brad Pilgrem added photos of the Fi 103 and Re 4 owned by the AMJET corporation in USA. The Fi 103 has a very strange artistic installation at the back of the fuselage, see second photo. It would be great to hear from anyone who knows the story behind it! Alexander Hurrle sent in a photo of  a BMW 132 engine on show at Flugwerft Schleißheim. I've also added some relic photos from Bodø, Norway of Ju 88 armored pilot seats and radio operator seat, instrument panels, as well as a fin and a wing of a He 111. Thanks for the additions!
February 23 2002 Birger Larsen sent in two new photos of the Bf 109E-3 and Ju 88G-1 under restoration in Hungary for Deutsches Technikmuseum, Berlin. An agreement have been reached between Deutsches Technikmuseum, Berlin and Norsk Luftfartsmuseum in Bodø where Ju 88 parts from Norway (one source will be Ju 88C-4 W.Nr. 0880797) will be used in the restoration of the German Ju 88G-1 and in return the fuselage shell of Ju 88D-1 W.Nr. 0881203 will be restored in Hungary. The interior equipment and fittings will be restored in Norway and it will be finally put together in Norway. Also a new set of wings for the Bf 109G-2/R1 W.Nr. 13470 under restoration at Bodø will be made in Hungary. Photos from Bodø of a Ju 52 instrument panel and a two bladed propeller from Bf 109D-1 W.Nr. 2540, N+6 from 11./(N)JG 2 have been added at the relic section.
February 17 2002

In cooperation with Horst Zoeller, webmaster of the Hugo Junkers site we've launched a joint special section for an internal "walk around" of the Junkers Ju 86 at Flygvapenmuseum, Linköping.

The reason for making this a joint venture is that a "walk around" is outside the main focus of the Preserved Axis Aircraft site, but the photos are quite unusual and should therefore be made available to other people. Horst has made the page and is hosting it on his server. It's designed to adapt to the layout and background of both our sites, depending from where you enter the section. Thanks for your great work and help on this project!

February 16 2002 Robert Greinert adds information and photo of a newly recovered Ki 61. Kirk Kinnear adds a photo of the Jumo 004 on show at the South Africa Air Force Museum. Peter Cohausz reports that a previously unlisted Bü 180B-2 is under restoration to flying in Germany. He also sent in cockpit photos of the Ju 87 at Hendon, CASA 352 c/n 100 and the more unusual photo of the toilet in CASA 352 c/n 50. Finally I've added information on the Bf 109G-2/R1 W.Nr. 13470 currently under restoration in Bodø. Also added were photos of the museums 4 Arado Ar 66 fuselage frames in storage.
February 12 2002 Claudio Basile added a photo of a undercarriage from the Reggiane Re 2006 and an undercarriage of a He 111. I've added some photos from Bodø of the tail of a Ar 196, a float from a BV 138, the wings of Ju 88 W.Nr. 880797 and a fuselage section of a Do 18G.
February 9 2002 This time I've added some pictures from my trip to Forsvarets Flysamling Gardemoen, Oslo and Norsk Luftfartsmuseum, Bodø in January. Especially I'd like to thank Guttorm Fjeldstad in Oslo and Birger Larsen at Bodø for their hospitality and making my trip such a success.

Ok, now to the photos; I've added some pictures of the Heinkel He 111 at Gardemoen, including photos of the cockpit and the Radio operators place. The He 111 at Gardemoen is more complete internally than the He 111 at Hendon - compare with internal photo of that one. Also photos of Ju 52 CA+JY and LN-DAF have been added. Both Ju 88s at Gardemoen have been added as have Ju 88 W.Nr. 881478 and W.Nr. 881203 at Bodö. Ju 88 W.Nr. 880797 will be added later. Look out for more photos of Luftwaffe engines, wrecks and relics from this trip that will be added shortly.

February  2 2002 Cees Broere sends some photos from the Stichting Aircraft Recovery Group 1940-1945's museum in Netherlands that he works for. The photos include a DB 601 and a fuselage section recovered from a Do 215, a Ju 88 fin, a DB 605 from a Bf 109G-5 and a Jumo 211 probably from a Ju 88 recoverd by a fisherman. Harper Noehren adds a photo of Gordon Gollobs rudder from a Bf 109F-4 which is the one seen on many photographs. This rudder was painted by the same artist who did Bär's rudder. This means that there might actually be to Gollob rudders preserved. I haven't yet seen the other rudder on a wartime photo, have anyone seen that? Phil Broad helped me with a photo of the Rheintochter on show at US Army Ordnance Center and School Museum, Aberdeen. Many thanks to you all for these additions!
January 28 2002 Lennart Berns added a photo a Ju 52/3m Steering wheel from Herman Görings private aircraft. It is on short term show at Flygvapenmuseum, Linköping, Sweden.
January 19 2002 From now on the web-address www.axisaircraft.com will take you to this site. Please update your links and bookmarks.

Vedran Marsanic sent in a photo of the airworthy Fi 156 OE-AKA stationed in Austria. Alfred Preuß added an in-flight photo of Fw 44 SE-BWM which have now moved to Germany, but will keep it's Swedish registration. Also Fw 44 SE-BEW have left Sweden to take up residence in Australia. If anyone know the new registration I'd appreciate information about it. Kirk Kinnear with the South Africa Air Force Museum www.saafmuseum.org.za have contributed photos of some of aircraft preserved in South Africa: CASA 352, Fi 156, Me 262 cockpit photo, the remains of a Ju 86. Mika Öhman shares some photos from his collection on the airworthy Kl 25 OH-ILI and the Fw 44 OH-SZR. Thank you for these contributions!
January 12 2002 Alexander Hurrle sent in a photo of a rare Riedelstarter engine from a BMW 003 jet engine - see the German relic page. Mario Raguž added a photo of a propeller from a Savoia S 55 aircraft - see the Italian relic page. Nenad Šetina sent in photos of the Amiot AAC.1 (Ju 52/3m) on show at the Yugoslav Aeronautical Museum, Belgrade together with a photo of a Jumo 004 engine in the same collection. João Vidal added photos of Eric Vormezeele's HA-1112-M1L (Buchon). Many thanks for your great additions!
January 6 2002 Marco Fernandéz-Sommerau sent in a photo of Bf 109G-6 W. Nr. 26129 and information that the aircraft has been sold to Association Aeronatique Provencal Victor Tatin in France. From Mario Raguž came a photo of a piece (it can be seen on the Italian relic section) from the SM 79 in which Italo Balbo was shot down in 1940 as well as photos of an instrument panel and a complete propeller from a Bf 109 on show at Heeresgeschichtliches Museum im Arsenal. Benno Goethals reports that the Junkers Ju 52 owned by Musee Royal de l'Armee has been put on display, see the new photo he sent! I've also added a photo of a DB 605A with the Flygvapenmuseum's collection.
January 2 2002 The first additions this year comes from Christiaan Vanhee and Alexander Hurrle. Christiaan sent in photos of the Ju 88G and the Bf 109E under restoration in Hungary for Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin. He also added photos of Bü 133 G-AEZX, Fw 190F-9 in storage in Belgrade, a rudder from a Bf 110G and a Ju 88A4 instrument panel from a private collection, the nose turret of a He 111 with gun on show at the military museum in Prague as well as a cockpit photo of the He 162 in Paris. Alexander writes in and says that the CASA 2.111 at Deutches Museum in Schleißheim is under restoration (see photo of that) and he also adds a photo of a propeller and some other parts on show from a Heinkel He 177. This was a great start of 2002, many thanks to you both!

See what changed on the site during 2001.
