December 27 2003 Pat and Linda Carry are lucky to have visited NASM's newly opened Steven Udvar-Hazy Center. Two photos from their visit have been added, of the Bü 133B YR-PAX and CASA 352 c/n 146.

Gregory Alegi and www.gavs.it contributed two photos of Saiman 202M I-SARD and I-BIOM.

Evžen Všetečka added a photo of the Bü 131 on show at Technicke Muzeum Tatra in Koprivnice. It is really a Aero C-104 which have been converted to Tatra T.131 standard. What changes that has been done is unknown to me. Many thanks to all of you for these christmas gifts!

December 21 2003 This update will focus on additions to the relic section. Thomas Siepert have added some very interesting photos from Luftfahrttechniches Museum Rechlin; He 177 coverplate, Ar 234C cover plate, Fw 200 turret, a quite small section of an engine cover from a Caudron C 445. Thomas has also added photos from a private collection called Rechlin/Lärz Luftfahrtmuseum; Riedel Starter engine, Bf 109E instrument panel, Ju 88A-4 instrument panel and a stearing column from a DFS 230 glider.

From my own collection I've added a photo of a Bf 109E rudder on view at RAF Museum Hendon and a photo of a seat and a stearing column for the Fw 200 under restoration in Germany.

December 6 2003 Don Hanses writes in to tell that his project on 190A-8 Werk Nr.173056 / N91169. The major heavy wiring is done, battery w/box installed behind the pilot, and flight insrtuments with wiring are installed. The landing gear has to be assembled before the mating of th wing and the fuselage is done. Certain parts are missing but will be added in due course.

This week Evžen Všetečka improved photos of the Nardi FN 305, Macchi MC 200, 202, 205 and Caproni-Campini CC.1 in the Italian Air Force Museum at Vigna di Valle. He also added a very interesting photo photo taken in 2003 of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 in Belgrade which shows the engine too! Thanks to everyone!

November 29 2003 From Norway and Birger Larsen comes news that Norsk Luftfartsmuseum in Bodö finally have been granted permission to export the remains of two Ju 88 aircraft (W.Nr. 1203 and 0797). The later will be used as spare parts source in the restoration of 1203 and 714628. 

Paul Misteli sent in a photo of his Bü 131 HB-UUO over the Swiss Alps. Evžen Všetečka contributed a photo of the Bü 181 (Zlin 381) OE-ACE as well as an improved photo of the Fi 156 on show at Heeresgeschichtliches Museum im Arsenal. I've also added a recent photo from the restoration of the Fw 200. Thanks for the contributions!

November 22 2003 Gregory Alegi wrote in with information that the Caproni Ca 100 held by the Italian Air Force Museum has been taken out of storage and that restoration of it has begun. The restoration is conducted by students of the "G. Veronesi" Professional Training Centre in Rovereto, near Trento. A photo of it during restoration has been added.

From Evžen Všetečka comes a photo of the Bü 181 (Zlin 381) on show at Vojenske Museum, Kbely, Prague. He also added improved photos of the HS 293 and Fritz X missiles on view and a better photo of the HS 293 on show at Koblenz.

November 12 2003 Gerhard Filchner of the Deutches Museum in Münich wrote to add some additional information regarding Do 24 W.Nr. 3387. He writes "It is now transferred to the Flugwerft Schleissheim museum, a branch of Deutsches Museum at Munich (on loan from EADS Dornier GmbH), the former home of Dornier Do ATT. The fuselage is inside the restoration shop for repairing some essential stress bearing parts ( see photo) before bringing the a/c in the exhibition hall. The general condition of the a/c is very bad. A long lasting restoration seems necessary."

Gregory Alegi sent in a photo of the Italian Air Force Museum's CR 32 in its new Spanish Civil War livery as applied by GAVS Rome chapter. It is now on display again.

Jim Watwood helped to fill a gap when he sent in a photo of the Bü 133 W.Nr. 251 on display at Virginia Aviation Museum.

David Weiss webmasterof http://www.one-o-nine.com contributed a photo of the fantastic replica being made in Germany by an enthusiast using many original parts and original Luftwaffe repair sheet metal. The project is listed as W.Nr. CE464836CE.

November  2 2003 Again Evžen Všetečka have contributed some interesting photos and information. The Do 24 W,Nr, 3387 previously on show as gate guard at the former Dornier airfield at Oberpfaffenhofen has been taken inside for a restoration. Hopefully it will be kept inside after completion of the restoration to prevent further deterioration. A second photo added was of the Bücker Aero 104S (Bü 131) of Czeck origin. Evžen added the very interesting information that the W.Nr. is 237 and not X001 as previously listed.
October 25 2003 Evžen Všetečka added photos of the Focke-Achgelis Fa 330 on show at Danmarks Flyvemuseum. Evžen also sent photos of some engines on display at Múzeum Letectva , Košice , Slovakia including a DB 605, BMW 801D and Argus AS 410. From Kozlekedsi Muzeum , Budapest , Hungary comes photos of an Argus As 10 and As 410. Thanks for the photos Evžen!
October 20 2003 Todd Hackbarth sent in a photo of the elusive Yokosuka "Ohka" on display at USMC Air Ground Museum, Quantico VA.

Evžen Všetečka contributed a photo of the NC 702 W.Nr. 350 which have been restored into Aero C-3A configuration at Vojenske Muzeum, Kbely AB. The completed fuselage is on display at the museum since April 2003. Work is under way on the wings. Finaly a restored Siebel is put on display! We can expect some more photos from Evžen soon.

October 3 2003 It seems that a third visitor of this site also visited the Hahnweide air show a few weeks ago. Stefan Schmoll sent in a photo of Fw 44 OO-JKT. John Black added a photo of Bf109G-10/U4 W.Nr. 610937. Ronnie Olsthoorn visited Cosford recently and added photos of a Jumo 205, HWK 739 rocket engine from a Wasserfall missile, a photo of the museums Wasserfall missile under restoration as well as a photo of the Rheintochter RI missile. The later missile has been stripped of its previous fictious paintscheme and is in good condition. New photos of Cosfords 109-500 rocket engine and their Fritz-X bomb have been added too. September 27 2003 Maurizio Longoni contributed a photo of a what is probably the sole preserved major part of a Caproni CA314. The part was recovered in Germany a few years ago. See the Italian relic section.

Benno Goethals also visited Hahnweide and sent in a photo of Casa 1131 D-EBPP and Fw 44J D-EMIL.

I had the opportunity to visit the Air Show at Hamburg Airport two weeks ago and took some photos. I've added a photo of Fw 44J D-EQAX. During the air show I had the opportunity to fly in one C-47 (SE-CFP) and take photos of two C-47s, one Li-2 and a DC-2 while doing their display routine. These photos are of topic on this site, but I show them anyway... :-) C-47 LN-WND, Li-2 HA-LIX and DC-2 PH-AJU.

September 21 2003 Due to problems with viruses I've not been able to make any updates for some time. Finaly the problems are solved so I will start with a few updates. More will follow soon.

Clifford Bossie added a photo of the Focke-Wulf Fw 44J on show at Pima Air Museum in Arizona. Kenneth Pedersen sent a photo from the air show at Hahnweide a few weeks ago, of the Bü 133C D-EAUU. Geert Smit of the Dutch Nostalgic wings contributed a photo of CASA 1.131 G-BUVn stationed at Hoogeveen.

August 31 2003 I've added a temporary section which will be up for a few weeks with photos from my vacation in Croatia. I happened to end up in the middle of some fire fighting CL-415 doing their magic on some forest fires. Hope you enjoy it despite not having anything to do with Axis aircraft! To the photos!
August 30 2003 Mario Raguž added a great photo of the Fiat G50 in storage at Belgrade.

Peter Arnold added information of a sucesfull recovery of Japanese aircraft from the Kurils in Russia. The real star of the recovery is the Nakajima B5N Kate that was brought back. The type was previously thought to be extinct. Also In the shipment were a Zero and two Oscars. It seems like there will be more stuff underway, even the Kawasaki Ki 48 Lily which would make a very exciting addition to the preservation scene. Photos have been added of the Zero and the Kate. Thanks to you both!

August 21 2003 It was some time since I updated the website since I've been away on vacation to Croatia. Great country don't miss it! During my time away I've received some new information and photos some which will come on line now, and some later on.

The excellent magazine Flugzeug Classic reports (with several good photos) in the latest issue that the CASA 2.111 W.Nr. 150 is to be restored to airworthiness with original Jumo 211 engines. So hopefully we will be able to see this type back in the air again, after the tragicall loss of CASA 2.111F W.Nr. 118. 

Ralf Gaida added information and a photo of a previously unlisted Bü 181 survivor. It is Bü 181 FV25016, D-EKYF which have reapeared. It's CoA expired in 1970. It is now under restoration at the Bücker museum at Rangsdorf www.buecker-museum.de This was very exciting news indeed!

Stefan Schmoll added a photo of Bü 181 D-ECES which is now on show at the Terminal II building at Cologne-Bonn airport. It is still owned by the previous owner and now on loan to the airport.

August 4 2003 Rasmus Svihus and Per-Øivind Skarphol reports on progress made at the Aircraft Historical Museum, Sola close by Stavanger in Norway. New photos have been added of their Arado 96 and their Caproni Ca 310. The Caproni fuselage have been transported to Kjevik/Kristiansand, where it will be completed. The tail unit is finished. Obviously the team is looking for any parts to assist in the restoration. Some parts were interchangeble between the Ca 310 series of aircraft.
July 26 2003 This time I've added some photos from the F11-Wing museum at Nyköping in Sweden. The wing was a reconaissance wing which flew Junkers Ju 86, Caproni CA 313, Fi 156 and some other interesting aircraft (e.g Spitfire Mk XIX, SAAB S29, S32, S35). Unfortunately the museum doesn't have any preserved axis aircraft types, though they do have some relics. Photos have been added of a Isotta Fraschini Delta RC35 engine of a CA 313, a starter engine from the same aircraft and also two sets of mainwheels. From the Ju 86 a stearing wheel have been added as well as a propeller from a Fi 156. Further a photo of a Heinkel Hirth 504 engine of the Västerås Flygmuseum has also been uploaded.

John White, Senior Curator of Military Technology at Australian War Memorial wrote in to give us a description on how they have elevated their Bf 109 in to that new striking pose as shown in a photo some weeks ago. I quote from his e-mail "Over the last year the AWM staff have undertaken a careful program of work on the aircraft to stabilise the aircraft and prepare it for display, including the design and manufacture of a special support structure. The project involved a quite large team including skilled aviation tradespersons and conservation staff with specific expertise in the preservation of timber, textiles, metal and paint. Some work was subcontracted, including the manufacture of broken/missing canopy panels and the aircraft support. Structural advice was supplied by a fully qualified engineer, and the overall effort was coordinated by the curatorial staff, who also chased missing parts, hardware etc.

A lot of thought and preparation went into the display structure and ensuring the safety of the aircraft. No part of the machine was damaged or permanently altered in any way to accommodate the support. The 109 is supported at four points. At the front, testing of the undercarriage attachments showed significant cracks on one side. Both the left and right units were removed (unbolted) and replaced with new steel fittings. These allow the undercarriage to be fitted in the retracted position and also include anchor points for the support. At the rear we used the left and right wing attachment points, which proved to be structurally sound. The wing attachment bolts were removed and longer bolts fitted that also anchor the support structure. The four points go down to a steel plate that is mounted, in turn, on top of the pole. The c.g. of the aircraft has also been checked and adjusted so that it lies above the display support and in its correct position. The four attachment points obviously pass down through several of the wing/fuselage fairing strips. Some of these were missing, and other affected parts were removed (unscrewed). The resulting gaps were filled with a set of new strips with holes as required, painted to match the surviving original parts. All the removed parts and hardware have been catalogued and stored so that they will be available to be re-fitted in future.

The overall position of the aircraft - level fore and aft, with a small bank to the left - was selected after a careful examination of the structure to ensure that the loads were no more demanding that having the aircraft assembled and on its undercarriage. The display area below will also remain clear so that the 109 can be taken down for inspection if required.

July 19 2003 From Argentina and Eduardo Ravera came the exciting news that two Focke-Wulf Fw 44 are under restoration and that a third fuselage is in storage. This means that the Fw 44 population have increased by two previously unlisted examples. Photos of two of the aircraft have been added. Previously one Fw 44 have been listed as preserved in Argentina (apart from LV-YZP now in Spain). It might be that this Fw 44 might be one of the three Fw 44 now being reported, or it might be a fourth example. I hope to receive more information regarding registrations etc in the future.

July 12 2003 A great loss was suffered on thursday the 10th of July when CASA 2.111F c/n 118 crashed. Unfortunately with the two man crew were tragically lost in the accident.

 Kenneth Pedersen have reported that CASA 352 c/n 54 have been restored and is back on show again at the Flughafen München, now painted as Lufthansa "D-ANOY" with the name "Rudolf von Thüna". A new photo have been added. Kenneth also informed that the previously stored Bf 108B-1 W.Nr 1561 has been sold to a new owner in Germany and that it is now flying again.

Daniel Leahy sent an update and photos of the progress at Australian War Memorial in Canberra. The Bf 109G have been assembled and placed on a pole (can someone confirmed that this has been done in a way that doesn't hurt the aircraft - they have feelings you know! ;-). Also the Me 262 has now been assembled.

July 05 2003 Roger Soupart added a photo of the Fi 103 on show at Stampe & Vertongen Museum at Antwerpen Airport, a photo of the CASA 2.111 under restauration at Deutches Museum, Oberschleißheim as well as a beautifull photo of the Do 24 on show in Holland.

Ernst Knutson is a member of the restoration team who works on the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 in Sola, Stavanger, Norway. He reports that good progress is being made and that the internal fittings are being done in the aircraft now. Many thanks both Roger and Ernst for these additions!

June 28 2003 Christoph Westhaus sent in updated photos of the Me 262 replica project, incorporating original parts and section which is undertaken by the Luftwaffe Museum. At the same museum, the outer  mainsparsections has been attached to the Me 323 mainspar. The complete main spar now really gives an idea of how big the Me 323 was. See the relic section for the photo. The outer sections of the mainspar was recovered a couple of years ago from a garage where they had served as spars in a building. At least two other sets of the outer mainsparsections have been preserved in Germany. 

The A4/V2 rocket under restoration at USAFM have now been completed, re-attached to the Meillerwagen and will go on show again in a few days.

June 22 2003 Jan Forsgren added information that the wreck of a Mitsubishi Ki-21 bomber is on view at the Thai Railway Musuem, Bangkok near the Chatuchak Weekend Market. The history and the condition of the wreck is unknown so far, but I hope to be able to show a photo in the future.

Göran Bruun writes in to tell that the Finnish Klemm L 25 OH-ILL is under restortion in Finland and also added a photo of it taken by Esa Pasila several years ago. It is an unusual Klemm L 25 since it has been added with a hood at one time.

Peter Cohausz contributed photos of the Junkers A 50 on view at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

June 14 2003 Christoph Westhaus have visited Bayerische Motoren Werke Museum, Munich and cotributed photos of the Klemm L 25 on show there as well as of some engines; BMW VI, BMW 132, BMW 801 and BMW 003. He also added photos of the newly restored Fi 156C-3/trop W.Nr. 2072, D-EAWD. Peter Cohausz cleared up the mistery with this to me previously unknown aircraft. He writes that the aircraft is a restoration compromising an ex Swedish Air Force Storch fuselage and wings from France. No traces of identity was found on the airframe so a previously unused W.Nr. was taken in the 2000 block.

Christoph also added some photos of different relics compromising a nose section of a Do 17, what probably is a He 51 propeller and an unknown RATO rocket on show at the musum in Wunstorf. Many thanks to both Christoph and Peter for photos and information!

June 6 2003 Thomas Siepert sent in some photos from Militär historisches Museum, Dresden of a Hirth HM 60, BMW 132, Argus AS 10 and an A4 engine chamber. 

Timo Savolainen have searched the VL Pyry fuselage frame at Vesivehmaan Varastohalli, Lahti and can confirm that the identity is indeed PY-26 as believed.
